The Action Packed Term 1
What a start to the school year we've had!
The Alice Springs Steiner School has warmly welcomed its new Interim Principal, Pep Hungerford, marking an exciting new chapter for the school community. Pep Hungerford brings extensive leadership experience, and her connection to our school is longstanding, having taught there in 2013 and again more recently, giving her valuable insight into the community she now leads.
The start of the term has not been without challenges, with recent flooding resulting in a temporary school closure. Despite this disruption, the school community has demonstrated resilience and a commitment to staying connected.
A new weekly initiative, “Cuppa Time,” has been introduced to strengthen those connections. Held every Friday morning at drop-off in the school hall, the gathering offers parents and friends a chance to share a warm drink, enjoy conversation, and build community.
Celebrations have also been a highlight, with students and staff marking the Lunar New Year in vibrant style. Class 7 students showcased their talents through lion dancing, a skill they began developing in Class 5 during their studies of ancient China. Their performance, supported by drummers including former students, brought energy and joy to the occasion.
Community engagement has continued within the classroom, with the school recently hosting the Alice Springs Quilting Club. Students were inspired by the visit, reflecting the school’s ongoing commitment to fostering meaningful local connections.
Harmony Day was also celebrated with the Class 7 students preparing a multitude of multicultural meals, recognising the rich multicultural diversity of both the school and the wider Alice Springs/Mparntwe community. The event was a fitting reflection of the school’s values of inclusivity, creativity, and community spirit.
