Exciting News: Literacy Renewal Program Funded by Community Bank Alice Springs
We are thrilled to announce that The Alice Springs Steiner School has been awarded a $3,000 grant from Community Bank Alice Springs to launch our Literacy Renewal Program—a vital initiative that is already making a positive impact on our classrooms.
Enhancing Literacy
With this generous funding, we have begun introducing a new collection of decodable readers that aligned with the Steiner curriculum. These books are carefully selected to support phonics-based learning while nurturing creativity, imagination, and a deep love for reading—hallmarks of Steiner education. The new readers feature engaging storylines, rich language, and beautiful illustrations, helping students connect emotionally and imaginatively with their reading. They’re more than just literacy tools—they’re a bridge to confident, joyful learning.
Program Goals Already Underway
Thanks to the support from Community Bank Alice Springs, we are now:
-
Expanding classroom libraries with high-quality decodable readers for Classes 1 to 3.
-
Improving reading outcomes by providing students with accessible, engaging texts that support phonemic awareness and decoding skills.
-
Fostering a positive reading culture that inspires students to read for both pleasure and learning.
-
Equipping teachers with new resources and professional development to tailor literacy instruction for all learning levels.
The program focuses on Lower Primary students (Classes 1 to 3), where foundational reading skills are critical. It’s also making a difference for students with diverse learning needs, offering extra support where it’s most needed.
What the Funding Supports
The $3,000 grant is enabling us to:
-
Purchase a curated selection of age-appropriate decodable readers, including both fiction and non-fiction.
-
Introduce classroom support materials such as reading trackers, visual aids, and comprehension activities.
We are deeply grateful to Community Bank Alice Springs for supporting this important step in our literacy journey. Thanks to their generosity, our students are already turning the page on a brighter, more confident reading future.
