The Alice Springs Steiner School Autumn Fair 2025 – Celebrating Community

On Saturday 24th of May, under clear desert skies at the foothills of the Tjoritja Ranges, The Alice Springs Steiner School welcomed more than 2,000 people for the 2025 Autumn Fair. This year’s fair was a relaxed and joyful day grounded in the spirit of our local community.

The school grounds came alive with the sound of children running between the Big Kids Games, the ever-popular Lawn Sale, and the quieter crafting spaces for younger children. Candle dipping was a favourite once again drawing in everyone from toddlers to grandparents. Toffee apples were also a big hit!

At the back of our school, on the red dirt, the return of the camel rides added a distinctly local touch. Children lined up patiently for a ride, some going back for seconds or thirds, waving to their families as they circled the back of the school grounds.

The smell of Wood-fired pizza and slow-cooked curry hung in the air alongside brewed chai and coffee, drawing people to the food stalls throughout the day. Families and friends sat beneath the trees, catching up over plates of homemade food and listening to live music. Local acts like Shavings, the Splinter Sisters, the Children’s Choir, and Liam King brought the stage to life with their warmth and energy.

Guided School and Farm Garden Tours, gave visitors a window into the Steiner education approach to learning, as well as the unique natural beauty of the school grounds— shaped by our Central Australian climate.

Community Support in Action

We are still finalising the profit for the school from this event but a big thanks to the generosity of our wider Mparntwe community. These funds will support ongoing improvements to our learning spaces and school grounds. A huge thanks goes to Class 4 and their families, who led the planning and ran the event with care and commitment. Their efforts made the day run smoothly and gave it the thoughtful touches that make this event feel truly local.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. People commented on the laid-back, welcoming atmosphere, the smooth flow of the day, and how stunning the school grounds were. The 2025 Autumn Fair was more than just a successful fundraiser. It was a genuine celebration of the values that shape our school and our region: creativity, connection, and community.

Thank you to everyone who came along. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
